ILL Quick Reference

This is a page designed for in-house collaboration of tips and tricks for obtaining research materials from other libraries (non-Maryland or non-SLRC participating). If you need help with normal Marina requests, see the intranet, email or call Jane Spear or Julia Cubit. Please click on the links to pages below for information.

FAQs - ILL Searches, periodical Requests, and direct loans

Most libraries are willing to lend their resources, but they have varying requirements. We'll try to assemble the gleaned methods on this wiki.  Your comments and input are appreciated. Since we don't participate in OCLC for ILL lending or receiving, usually libraries require an ALA form, which Jane will fill out with the information you or your patron provides.  Some universities, colleges, and the Library of Congress now require us to maintain a logon and password for their ILLiad websites. These requests will also need to be funnelled through the ILL office, since these logons and passwords are maintained there.

Also - please remember, even though the Maryland Room is physically located at 110 East Patrick Street, the resources and staff there are available to all Frederick County patrons and staff. If you have a genealogy request, or just need to ask advice for help in locating a hard-to-find item, don't hesitate to call or email Mary Mannix, Carolyn Magura or Waneta Gagne (See sidebar for contact info). They are always more than glad to share resources.

Did you know that Maryland Historical Society will now take ILL requests?  This is a new service recently re-instituted, thanks to your Maryland Room Genealogy guru who asked them to revisit a previous policy.  Contact Mary Mannix in the Maryland Room if your patron wants something from MHS.
